You can transfer a number to Google Voice but it is a pain – You can only transfer your number to Google Voice from a cell phone line. So if you want to tranfer your current home number you will first have to tranfer to a cell phone (best would be a prepaid plan) and then transfer to Google Voice. There is a one-time $20 fee to port your number to Google Voice (you can click here for more info).
