As of February 2 2016, British Airways will be going away with those Zone 1 flights (flights up to 650 miles in distance, for example New York to Toronto) for just 4,500 points when booked for US travel on American Airlines. Those Zone 1 flights will be raised to 7,500 a way. This change will also effect business class tickets, they wil jump to from 9K Avios to 15,000 a fligh from the 9,000 they are currently.
The good thing is, that all the higher zones will not be changed at this time!
