Starwood Hotel Category Changes For 2014

February 20, 2014 Comments Off on Starwood Hotel Category Changes For 2014

Starwood has announced the category changes for 2014.

A bit over 20% of Starwoods hotels are changing category, 56% are going down in category and 44% are going up.

Looking through the list I see that most of the hotels that are going down in category are in places like China and India, and most the hotels on the list to move up are in North America. There are some going down in North America as well, like the Four Points in San Jose California, the Sheraton in Orlando Florida, the Shereton and Four Points in Niagara Falls are all going from a category 3 to a category 2.

These changes will go in to effect on March 4th 2014, so if the hotel is going down a category then wait to book and if you plan on staying at a hotel that’s on their list to be changed and it going up in category book your stay before the 4th. Most hotels let you cancel for free up to a certain amount of days before your reservation (just make sure to check what it is when you book).

The price of points needed per night for each category is not being changed this year, you can click here to see the chart of how many point you need for each category.
