With thousands of seminary students in Israel under lockdown, educating them on their future degree options is more difficult than ever.

“Students need this information, and they need it now,” explains Mrs. Batsheva Shonek, director of Sara Schenirer. “Many of them will be looking for jobs for next year when they return home for Pesach, and a lot depends on which degree program they will join. Under normal circumstances, we would travel to Israel to host open houses and visit seminaries, but this year, that has proven impossible.”

Students. however, are not the only ones reaching out for help. Parents are also making phone calls, sending emails, and chatting with advisors, seeking to understand their daughters’ options.

“With so many undergraduate options such as psychology, business, accounting, and social work, parents and seminary students need personal guidance, and we’re committed to providing it,” shares Mrs. Shonek.

To help parents understand their options and prepare their daughters for the coming year, Sara Schenirer will be hosting a unique Virtual Open House for parents only on Monday, February 15th at 8:00 PM.

The one-hour program will cover topics such as financial aid, credit transfers, student support, academic integrity, and a review of available degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The program is free and will be online via Zoom Webinar, but pre-registration is mandatory.

Oxygen is essential for life.

Most of us take it for granted. We’ve had all the oxygen we’ve needed all our lives.

But not everyone is so fortunate.

Those stricken with Covid-19, in many cases, suffer from a multitude of symptoms. But, doctors say, there is one elixir that is more potent than any other: oxygen.

So how does a Covid-19 patient get the oxygen that he or she needs?

The answer is an oxygen concentrator. A concentrator provides oxygen to a patient in their homes, obviating the need to enter already overcrowded and overburdened hospitals. The needed treatment can be brought to the patient’s house. It is very literally a lifesaver.

But there’s a problem. In Eretz Yisroel, these devices are nearly impossible to obtain, and even those that can be purchased cost an exorbitant amount of money.

The Darkei Miriam organization, recognizing this need, has stepped in to raise the funds necessary to deliver concentrators to Covid-19 patients whose recovery depends on them. The benefit is twofold: Patients receive the oxygen that they desperately need, and they can receive this treatment in the safety and comfort of their own homes.

These patients are counting on us. Right now, 1,000 concentrators are needed. Also needed are 10,000 oximeters, an electronic device that measures the oxygen carried in a person’s blood.

We must do what we can to step up and help the Jews in Israel whose lives very literally hang in the balance.

This project of Darkei Miriam is being facilitated by Bikur Cholim of Lakewood, ensuring that once the funds are raised, the oxygen concentrators can be purchased swiftly and delivered to those who need them most.

The Rand family cant do it without you!

As a Kehilla, we have endured overwhelming tragedy over these many months. Again a tragedy of unbelievable scope, a young wife and mother plucked from her family. Bashie Rand was just 37 years old and in good health just two weeks ago. With no warning or ability to plan she leaves behind a husband and three children.

The family only recently moved to the East Coast from Henderson, NV. While they accomplished so much in Henderson and were pillars of the community, they left the community they loved out of pure mesiras nefesh in seeking out a high school for their oldest child and yeshivos for the other two children.

In addition, Bashie was a speech therapist by profession. Through this role she was able to help hundreds of children struggling with their speech, however, with her passing, it leaves not only a loss for the community at large and all the many children’s lives she has impacted through her work but also a significant loss of income for the family.

Somehow, Bashie’s husband and children will need to begin the process of picking up the broken pieces. They cannot do this alone. Mi K’amcha Yisrael! At a time of need is when we as a kahal are at our finest.

With three young children to raise, no income, and a home to maintain we ask that you open your hearts and contribute. Help to carry them through this most difficult time, help to give them what they need. No longer do they have their mother but they have us, Klal Yisrael!
