• Every bochur gets a chinuch and derech in learning how to approach a sugya, not just a notebook of Torah

A message from the Gutman family, whose story has appeared in Jewish news sites over recent months, as mother Ayala fought bravely against cancer:
 
“Dear Klal Yisroel,

We are writing to you as we mourn the death of our mother, Ayala Gutman A”h.

Our mother was sick with cancer for over 10 years. Throughout it all, her number one priority was to be there for us. Her dream to be healed and cancer free was motivated by her wanting to be able to provide for her family like any other mother does. Unfortunately, just a little over a year ago her cancer spread to her brain. It didn’t take long for the cancer to completely debilitate her.

After a grueling 12 years, and many many aggressive treatments, our mother was niftar. Our father is grieving the loss of his beloved and has been left with tremendous medical debt from all the treatments he paid for in order to help our mother. He has nothing left and needs help getting himself back on his own two feet. It’s been so many years that he has only thought of our mother, we fear he forgot how to take care of himself.

Please help us help him. Anything you can give him to help pay off the medical bills and restabilize himself would be so appreciated. We have already lost our mother to cancer. Please help us keep our father afloat during this difficult time.

Devastating photos emerged this week, as the Stern children said goodbye to their mother, Mrs. Yehudis Stern. Yehudis was a beloved teacher, and a mother of 15.

Her battle with cancer was excruciatingly slow. In her final days, Yehudis was bedridden and her family devoted their time to tending to her needs.

Last week, against all odds, Mrs. Stern was brought to her son’s chuppah. She was unable to stand, but was determined to attend the ceremony. Her family says that she had one dying wish: That her household and children should be taken care of.

Yehudis’s widower Rabbi Stern is now struggling to fulfill her final wishes, as he is now solely responsible for the financial and emotional welfare of a large family, while processing immense grief himself. An emergency fund has been opened for the Stern family to help them overcome this unimaginable tragedy.

Tisha B’av’s come and go – but Hashem gave us Tisha B’av for a reason: So that we change.

We are pained to announce the passing of Mrs. Ayala Gutman, mother of 5.

Readers around the world followed Gutman family’s story earlier this year, when they rallied together to make a wedding despite Ayala’s illness. Mrs. Gutman fought cancer for over ten years, and was confined to a wheelchair. Recently she began to lose her memories as well, and her condition was diagnosed as terminal.

The family was able to happily marry off one son in recent months, a simcha which will no doubt be remembered as their final reunion & celebration before their mother’s untimely passing.

Mrs. Gutman passed away last week, leaving behind a devastated widower & 5 children. Rabbi Gutman has dedicated many years to caring for his severely ill wife, and is now deeply bereft.

Donations are being accepted for the Gutmans, who are left with tremendous medical debt. Contributions are badly needed as they go toward emerging from seemingly insurmountable debt, and covering basic bills.

For Mrs. Gutman and her family, the battle with illness has been a long one, fought bravely, and with much suffering. Now they begin a new road – toward peace & healing. A road that can only be possible if it is paved by the kindness and compassion of others.

David Birnstein and his family were doing everything they could to keep themselves out of harm’s way from the spreading Coronavirus. They were shocked then, when David was diagnosed with another deadly disease. A young David is the father of three young children, one of whom is just a five month old baby. The recent diagnosis has completely changed this young family’s life.

David’s disease has traveled to his brain, which is painful and life threatening for David. Initially he was hospitalized just for treatment of the disease, but the doctors have informed the Birnsteins that David must remain in the hospital for at least another year in order to receive proper treatment and rehabilitation in order to fully recover.

The costs of the hospital treatments are a fortune, 10,000 shekel a month. Naturally, this expense is way beyond the young family’s means. It is a matter of life and death though, and the Birnsteins are doing everything they can to help David survive.

The famous Biale Rebbe and Rachmastrivka Rebbe have heard David’s story and have been inspired to help him. These Gedolei HaDor recognize the tremendous help the Birnsteins need in order to save David’s life. This Monday will be the yahrzeit of beloved Gadol & Torah giant, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv zt”l.

Shockwaves were sent through the global Jewish community when Rav Elyashiv passed away 8 years ago. To this day, many flock to his gravesite to pay their respects.

Rav Elyashiv’s son in law, the current Gadol HaDor Rav Chaim Kanievsky, is no exception.

Rav Kanievsky will continue his yearly tradition of visiting Rav Elyashiv’s grave on the day of his yahrzeit. As usual, the Rav will be followed by a group of spectators, there to guard his safety as well as those who are simply curious to get a glimpse. Rav Kanievsky being seen outdoors is a rarity, especially during the pandemic.

In addition to honoring Rav Elyashiv, Rav Kanievsky comes to the cemetery with a singular goal in mind: Saving the lives of those who are suffering in poverty.

It was Rav Elyashiv’s personal request that Klal Yisroel should continue to give their tzedaka to Vaad HaRabbanim, the organization which sprang from his vision to help the impoverished families of Israel. Since its founding Vaad HaRabbanim has risen to worldwide recognition. Though Rav Elyashiv has left this world, his legacy lives on, both in the Torah he gave over, and in the massive network of Jews on both the giving & receiving end of Vaad’s international networks. To those who join in this worthy cause the Rav extended his bracha of “bney, chaeye o’mezoney” – children, life and parnassah.

In these turbulent times, this blessing is as needed as ever.

One man’s business has gone terribly awry and instead of supporting a family it is now tearing them apart. A man, whose identity is being kept anonymous for safety precautions, is being terrorized and threatened by an Arab worker. The Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Chachmat Lublin and grandson of Harav Shmuel Vosner zt’l, HaGaon HaRav Yosef Binyamin Vosner shlit’a, knows this man personally and has vouched that this man is righteous and honest. The man being threatened was a close disciple of Rav Vosner’s grandfather, the Shevet HaLevi. Rav Vosner has declared this to be a matter of life and death and is urging the public to do what they can to help raise sufficient funds to save this man’s life. Do not abandon a man when he needs such dire help.

Rav Binyanim Finkel, who is world-renowned for both his Torah learning and his tremendous chesed, was approached recently with the details of multiple individuals who are currently suffering in poverty due to extremely difficult life situations. Rav Finkel was deeply moved by the stories of the individuals in question, who have endured everything from cancer to blindness, abuse to homelessness.

It was then that plans were made for the Rav to travel on urgent business to the Kosel HaMaaravi, with a list of names to pray for in hand. The names belong to all those who donate to help the families in need. Donors receive the Rav’s bracha for nachas, health, parnassa, righteous children, and a long life.

It is no secret that the coronavirus has put much of the globe on hold, with Jews around the world unable to travel to Israel. Many long to visit the Kosel once more, to visit the shechina and immerse themselves in prayer. Rav Finkel’s visit is a unique opportunity to visit in spirit, when visiting physically is impossible.

The Breslev community lost a tremendous light last week, with the passing of prominent Rav and father of 10 children Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Karmel. Karmel collapsed in his home while battling COVID, and Hatzolah were unable to resuscitate him.

The rabbi gave a remarkable 18 shiurei Torah each week to his beloved talmidim, and authored seforim as well. He was also well known for having the honor of leading prayers in Uman on Rosh Hashana, as the baal tefilah on the Yom HaDin for chassidim from all over the world.

Rav Karmel left behind a Rebbetzin and many children, who are now struggling to come to terms with his sudden passing.

“We had heard the stories of how suddenly it could happen,” says the moving letter on the family’s emergency fund page, “but nothing prepares you for it to happen to you.”

Rebbetzin Karmel is now left with enormous debts as well as devastating grief, and is turning to the Jewish People for help. Those who are able to help the Karmel orphans during this extremely sensitive time can do so here for a limited time.

With experience as wives, mothers, and sometimes grandmothers, the mature woman brings the wisdom gained in their lives to the profession. Combined with the excellent, professional training provided in face-to-face classes, these women emerge with the knowledge, skills, and insight that makes them especially valuable additions to the profession.  Our program is very welcoming to women who are returning to school and offers a variety of ways to complete the program from full-time (2 years with classes only on Sundays and field work during the week) to part-time (done in either 3 or 4 years).

Heartbreaking images surfaced this week of the levaya of Rabbi Moshe Friedman, a 36-year-old father of 3. Friedman passed away recently after an arduous battle with cancer, which spread from his lungs to other organs. His wife Chava was by his side during his suffering, while also raising 3 children, two of whom are suffering from epilepsy.

After two years of tremendous suffering, Rabbi Friedman wasted away to the point that he was barely recognizable. Once a young, smiling man with a bushy brown beard, recent images show a pale, thin man in a wheelchair. In stark contrast to this image, his sons, with tears streaming down their rosy cheeks and flowing blond peyos, stammered through kaddish at his funeral procession. It was a painful collision of youthful & sick, life & death, the future and the past. Though Rabbi Friedman’s life has come to a close, his boys’ futures have yet to be written.

Chava’s relief for her husband to be free of his pain, as well as her crushing grief & sense of helplessness are painfully apparent in the family’s emergency fund page. She is now a young woman left to single handedly support her children, managing their medical needs, while mourning the loss of her “partner in life.”
